The bathhouse, room by room.

Ürgüp Hamam is a sequence of connected stone rooms, each shaped by its role in the hammam ritual.

Historic entrance

The visit begins beneath the carved-stone entrance and its oval ironwork window before continuing into the bathhouse.

A colourful mural depicting hammam culture brings a social and historical layer to the pale stone interior.

Cooling room

The cooling room (soğukluk) has a central dome and additional domed spaces. Marble benches run around its perimeter.

Warm transition

A quieter intermediate space allows the body to acclimatise between the cooling and hot rooms.

Round-arched doorway

A stone round-arched doorway marks the passage into the hot room — one of the most defining architectural moments of the building.

Hot room

The hot room (hararet) is the heart of the hammam. A wide domed space with star-shaped openings admits soft beams of daylight onto pale marble.

Göbek taşı

At the centre of the hot room, the göbek taşı — the heated marble platform — rises in low steps. Visitors rest on its warm surface.

Kurnas

Traditional marble basins (kurnas) are positioned around the bathing space. Warm water is drawn from them for rinsing.

Water reservoir and furnace

West of the hot room sit the water reservoir and furnace that have heated the bathhouse for nearly three centuries. This part of the building is not open to visitors.

Rest after bathing

The visit closes in the cooling room, where visitors dry, dress and rest before returning to the city outside.
