Ürgüp is the largest of Cappadocia's historic towns and its long-standing service centre — a working town rather than a purpose-built visitor village. Cut-stone houses, an old bazaar street and the historic bathhouse belong to that character.

A traditional Turkish bath sits naturally at the end of a Cappadocian day: quiet, warm and rooted in the town itself. Aim for the late afternoon or early evening, after the valleys have grown cool.

The sequence is calm and clearly guided. You will change privately, spend time in a cooling room, move into the warm and hot rooms, rest on the göbek taşı, rinse at the kurnas and cool down again before dressing.

Modest swimwear is standard for international visitors. A pestemal is provided and worn over it in the cooling and hot rooms.

Walk the old town after sunset, take a slow dinner on a stone terrace, and end the evening at the bathhouse — the amber-lit exterior is one of the town's quiet pleasures.

The Ürgüp Museum, the Temenni Hill viewpoint and the small streets of the old quarter are all within short walking distance of İstiklal Caddesi.

Ürgüp is a short drive from Göreme; local dolmuş services also run between the towns. Please confirm current times locally.

Ortahisar is a small castle-town very close to Ürgüp. A short taxi or drive brings you to İstiklal Caddesi.

Uçhisar sits above Göreme, on the road toward Ürgüp. Combine a valley walk with an evening in Ürgüp for a well-paced day.
